RAY SKELBRED/BOB JACKSON QUINTET
FIRST THURSDAY BAND
Ray Skelbred/Bob Jackson's First Thursday Band, featured the first Thursday of every month at Seattle jazz club The New Orleans Creole Restaurant, playing After You've Gone:
Ray Skelbred/Bob Jackson's First Thursday Band, performing monthly at Seattle jazz club The New Orleans Creole Restaurant, brings together traditional jazz veterans who have been playing gigs and festivals for many years.
Ray Skjelbred, a retired English teacher and poet in his current day gig, played for years with the Turk Murphy Band in San Francisco, and now plays festivals throughout the United States with Bob Schulz from the Bay area. Ray has made numerous recordings with Barbara Dane and other notable musicians from across the country. He has just released a wonderful recording of himself playing a Dolceola, a piano-like instrument manufactured between 1904 and 1908 in the Amereican Midwest.
Dave Brown plays bass in an early New Orleans style, is a member of Combo de Luxe, and performs in swing bands locally and in Canada.
Co-leader/trumpeter Bob Jackson has played with the Great Excelsior and Grand Dominion Jazz Bands.
Drummer Mike Daugherty, originally from Baltimore, plays and sings with Pacific Northwest bands including Holotradband, Casey MacGill's Blue 4 Trio, and is in high demand for swing dance gigs.
Together, the mission of the First Thursday Band is to have fun and play for the dancers. Come join us on the first Thursday of each month, Art Walk night in Pioneer Square. Plan on good fun and good food!
